FUKUSHIMA HAMADORI COASTAL AREA

Egomaru

Egomaru is a health food cookie made from a Fukushima prefecture local speciality called  egoma (a wild sesame that is  a variant of the shiso plant, with edible seeds). Egoma is traditionally associated with Japanese cuisine, so it is interesting to see it used in a Western-style confection. Chocolate and creamy caramel is sandwiched between thin egoma and cheese cookies, creating a perfect combination of Eastern and Western flavors in a single snack. Egomaru was developed in a collaboration between Namie’s egoma farmers at Ohtaka Farm and Iwaki’s Iwaki Chocolat chocolaterie.

*The company sells 3 brands, and 4 products of Egoma-related treats.
