FUKUSHIMA HAMADORI COASTAL AREA

Futaba SUPER ZERO Mill

Opened on April 22, 2023, this large complex includes a twine mill that produces a unique twisted yarn based on cutting-edge technology, a shop that sells high-quality towels using the yarn and a coffee shop. It employs a number of local residents and often collaborates with local residents, making it a symbol of regional recovery after the tsunami and nuclear accident of March, 2011. SUPER ZERO is a patented “magic” yarn that results in towels that are fluffier and far more absorbent than towels made of regular yarn. Air Kaol Futabamaru is a directly-managed store that sells the Air Kaol high-function towels, which are highly absorbent and quick drying, thanks to the SUPER ZERO yarn. The towels come in three colors—pink (for local cherry blossoms), blue (for the sea), and green (for the local high school baseball team’s color), chosen input from the local community. The Key’s café on the premises is the first of its kind in this area. The Air Kaol Futabamaru shop and Key’s Café are open to the public. Guided tours of the mill facilities are available, but must be booked in advance.
